Businesswoman, philanthropist, and television personality Bethenny Frankel is known for her bold and outspoken nature. Over the years, she has taken many calculated risks as an entrepreneur, investor, and lifestyle influencer. One of the best ‘risks’ has been speaking up as a woman in business. Now with much success, Frankel has taken on a new venture as the host of the “Just B with Bethenny Frankel” podcast which takes a nontraditional approach to business and lifestyle conversations with business luminaries.
To date, Mark Cuban, Television personality, Entrepreneur, and Owner of the Dallas Mavericks; Bozoma Saint John, Chief Marketing Officer of Netflix; and Paris Hilton, Entrepreneur & DJ have joined Frankel on her show.
When it comes to speaking up, Frankel said that there are many ways to do business. Being fearless in her decision making and advocating for herself are two of the many things that have gotten her to where she is today.
In Business, Say What You Mean
“I’ve always been like this! Different people have different styles. Some people just go with their gut. Paris Hilton says that she goes with her gut, most people do. Other people like to pitch to ask around or to crowdsource because there are people around them that are smarter than them. There are many different styles to every type of business,” said Frankel.
She went on to add, “We are alone in our decision making in business. Once you make that final decision, you sign that paper, you make that choice to say something, do something – it’s your choice alone. That fearlessness has really taken me far. I’ve always known that when you jump, you fly. When something feels wrong, but you just don’t have the courage to do it, you just kind of have to do it.”
In addition to the behind the scenes conversations with her celebrity friends, Frankel believes that the information shared on her podcast will serve as tools for women as they do business. With the recent launch of the show, Frankel says that it has been liberating for her as well as she enters new chapters in her life personally and professionally.
“Having that fearlessness and coming into this podcast was amazing because it was what I wanted to do. It wasn’t something I was doing for money. It wasn’t something that I was doing because I was obligated to. It was something that felt like a brand new space and a place where I could just be myself and have conversations I wanted to have, learn, and inspire. This is a growth period – especially in turning 50 and deciding to go back to ‘the casino tables’ after I sold a part of Skinnygirl years ago. This took courage,” said Frankel.
Just weeks after premiering, “Just B” is now one of Apple Podcasts’ top ranking shows.
Doing Business With Your Heart
In addition to finding ways to be fearless and advocate for oneself, Frankel shared that it is important to execute in business – even during this time of uncertainty.
“You have to kind of be playing chess at all times. You need to be looking at the board for future moves – and be also aware of the pieces. Right now, is an interesting time in business because as a result of this tragic pandemic, and all the job loss, the anxiety, and the upset, it also a time for tremendous growth. People have to jump. They’ve been pushed out of a plane and they have no choice but to fly.” Frankel added, “You have to have an architectural plan. That doesn’t mean you have to have a business plan, but, understand the way all the veins of your business are pumping blood to the heart. Understand your brand completely, be able to explain it, live it, and breathe it.”
As a businesswoman who has been able to maintain during the pandemic, Frankel has made it a priority to give back to others. Through her BSTRONG foundation, she helped raise $5.7 million in funds and distributed over $19 Million in Protective Equipment (PPE) nationwide.
Looking ahead, Frankel is gearing up for her new business competition series, “The Big Shot with Bethenny”, from MGM Television, Mark Burnett and her own B Real Productions. In the eight-episode series on HBO MAX, the next generation of business moguls will compete for a chance to win a spot on her Skinnygirl executive team. She is equally excited about her new line of Skinnygirl Supplements that are designed to help everyday women maintain their health as they manage their busy lifestyles. Frankel’s supplements are for relaxation, hair, skin, nails, and intimacy. Skinnygirl also offers a natural food line.
At the end of the day, in her words, “Building Bethenny”, which enompasses all of her businesses, is one of Frankel’s main priorities along with inspiring others to do the same.
