ICAC: Daryl Maguire admits role in cash-for-visa scheme

Former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire has admitted he accepted cash deliveries to his parliamentary office relating to a visa scheme for Chinese nationals.

The former lover of the NSW Premier has made a series of stunning admissions in front of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, agreeing he ran a private business from his parliamentary office, received cash for his role in a visa scheme, and promised clients access to high levels of Government.

Mr Maguire appeared in front of ICAC on Wednesday, two days after Gladys Berejiklian sensationally revealed she had been in a close personal relationship with Mr Maguire for five years, starting in 2015.

Mr Maguire agreed on Wednesday he acted as a shadow director in a company that profited from selling access to the highest levels of the NSW Government.

The power of narrative and role of storytelling in business

The Fast Company Impact Council, an invitation-only group of corporate leaders, entrepreneurial founders, and other leaders from across industries, gathered on June 30 to share their insights. Members split into small groups, moderated by Fast Company editors, and shared their perspectives on how they are managing and innovating amid a trio of crises: the global pandemic, the economic slowdown, and calls for social justice in the wake of the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

In this roundtable discussion, led by senior editor Amy Farley, top executives talked about how companies build narratives that can resonate with consumers and with employees, and how the role of authentic storytelling and honest communication will be a key tenet of business in the decades to come. Participants in this session, in no particular order, were the executive director of MIT Media Lab Deb Roy, Esri CMO Marianna Kantor, Integral Ad

Dentsu’s Konrad Spilva resurfaces in Hardie Grant consulting role, will open own consultancy this year

Konrad Spilva – who stepped down as chief executive of Isobar last March after 18 years with the business – has joined independent publisher Hardie Grant in a consulting role. However, there are also plans for his own consultancy on the horizon.

Spilva’s departure from Dentsu was in the works for some time, the business said last year, and would see him support his wife with their online flower and gifting business, and continue his other ventures: Bridge Road Brewery and data consultancy, Alkhemy.

Earlier this year, Spilva was reportedly in discussions with former Dentsu boss Simon Ryan about being an integral part of Ryan’s new business, Ryancap. But he did not end up being part of the venture – dubbed a holding company, with media agency Ryvalmedia and, as of last week, data and tech business Foxcatcher under the Ryancap umbrella.

Spilva will start by advising Hardie Grant Media,
