BOISE, Idaho — Some farmers fear a rate case before Idaho commissioners will throw shade on future solar projects. The state Public Utilities Commission will consider changes for farmers to its net-metering program, which credits producers for excess energy sent back to the grid.
The proposal could mean a lower net-metering credit rate. Russell Schiermeier is a farmer in Bruneau, located in the high desert of southwest Idaho. He has high energy costs and installed solar two years ago. Under Idaho Power’s proposed change, he would be grandfathered in under the current rates, but only for 10 years rather than 25 like residential customers.

Debra Smith, city of Erie economic and community development director
Debra Smith, the city of Erie’s new director of economic and community development, is the first Black woman to lead a city department.
Debra Smith never thought about making history.
When Smith began working for the city of Erie as an employment and training accountant in December 1985, the Erie native and Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduate was happy to have found a steady job working with numbers.
She figured that her time with city government would eventually lead to a career as a certified public accountant.
Later, she began crunching the numbers for a number of city economic and community development initiatives, and that’s when things changed.
Smith started to comprehend the humanity represented in those ledgers, reports and spreadsheets — and realized she wanted to do even more.
recent expansion into physical distribution is looking prescient, as surging digital sales during the coronavirus pandemic boost demand for the e-commerce technology company’s fulfillment services.

On trips like these, Secret Service agents were there to protect Trump’s children. But, for the Trump family business, their visits also brought a hidden side benefit.
That’s because when Trump’s adult children visited Trump properties, Trump’s company charged the Secret Service for agents to come along. The president’s company billed the U.S. government hundreds, or thousands, of dollars for rooms agents used on each trip, as the agency sometimes booked multiple rooms or a multiroom rental cottage on the property
In this way, Trump’s adult children and their families have caused the U.S. government to spend at least $238,000 at Trump properties so far, according to Secret Service records obtained by The Washington Post.
Government ethics experts say that nothing is wrong with Trump’s children seeking protection from the Secret Service.
But, they said, the Trump Organization’s decision to charge for the agents’ rooms created a situation in which
Lafayette-based food delivery company Waitr announced Thursday that it is adding table-side service capabilities to its app, allowing users to see a menu, place an order, pay and tip without contact.
Customers access the dine-in capabilities by scanning a QR code on a smartphone. The phone pulls up the menu and allows the user to place their order.
“Contactless service has become increasingly important amid the pandemic for safety reasons. This new product will serve the need of restaurants that are bolstering their safety protocol, and will help make diners feel safer since the ordering process is contact free,” said Carl Grimstad, CEO and chairman of the board for Waitr. “This product also has the potential to increase the number of times a table can turn
Participating in community service is one of the most rewarding things you can do. No matter your age, giving back can help you build friendships, develop new skills, and increase life satisfaction — all while making the world a better place. It’s no wonder that in a Good Housekeeping poll of over 4,000 people, 19% of respondents said they typically volunteer once a month and another 19% said they volunteer even more than that.
Ahead, we’ve found the most impactful community service ideas for volunteers of all ages. Remember: these ideas are meant to be general. If one speaks to you, think of ways you can personalize it toward your interests and expertise. Don’t be afraid to think big either.
